Mwakiweza

“Mwakiweza,” meaning “if a woman is empowered, she can do it” in Kiswahili, is a collective of six women gathering weekly to discuss their group and individual businesses, their savings, and the loans they provide each other from their savings.

Residing in Bangata, a rural suburb of Arusha, these women operate under the group business name “Mwakiweza Lishe Bora,” alternating between cultivating potatoes and vegetables for sale at the market. Despite its seasonal nature, they are dedicated to expanding their business endeavours.

Their personal businesses range from selling second hand clothes, growing green bananas and vegetables, to holding goats for milk.
