Location

Tanzania, officially named the United Republic of Tanzania, is an East African country located in the African Great Lakes region. It consists of mainland Tanzania, and the Island of Zanzibar. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, is in northeastern Tanzania, not far from Arusha.

According to the United Nations, Tanzanzia has a population of approximately 65 million, who belong to one of the 130 different tribes in the country. The national language is Swahili, with English as the second official language. 

Since March 2021, Mrs. Samia Suluhu Hassan is the first female president of the country. Dodoma is the capital of Tanzania. Dar es Salaam is the industrial center of the country, and by far the largest city.

Arusha, where Wanawake Tunaweza is residing is the third largest city with around 400,000 inhabitants and also known as the “Safari Capital”, since many of the safaris throughout the northern safari circuit depart from here. The city is located at the foot of Mount Meru, the little brother of Kilimanjaro.

Arusha has numerous hotels and lodges, and many restaurants and supermarkets that are used to Western visitors. In the city you will find the Arusha International Conference Center, the Headquarter of the East African Community, the UN Tribunal for the Rwanda Genocide and the African Court for Humans and Peoples Rights.
