Mkuya
Mkuya is an inspiring group of nine women, aged between 40 and 60, from the Uswahilini neighbourhood in Arusha. Many of the women are widows, and they are all committed to supporting and uplifting each other, both personally and financially.
The women joined the Wanawake Tunaweza Tanzania programme in 2025. With our support, they started a peanut butter production business. Having initially used a simple, manual process, the group soon began looking for equipment to help them scale up and enhance production.
With the support of their Wanawake Tunaweza Tanzania coach, the group secured a basic nut grinder, enabling them to increase production and sell their product in various quantities and locations, including the weekly organic farmers’ market in Arusha. Inspired by WTT’s Dutch coaches, they have also expanded their product range to include peanut sauce, a popular delicacy in the Netherlands! Other product lines being considered include homemade soap.
Meanwhile, the Mkuya women are working with their coach to improve their stock management skills. One thing is certain: there is much more to come from this adaptable, highly entrepreneurial group!
